Saffron Walden Youth Outreach Project

The Saffron Walden Youth Outreach Project that administers the Goldie Youth Group is a registered charity and has been working with young people in the town since it was founded in 1995. One of the charity's main aims has always been to provide not just facilities, but also trained youth workers who can make a huge and very positive difference to the way young people feel about themselves and the world around them.

We run two successful youth clubs in the town, have an outreach service and a counselling service for young people.

In this area of Essex, there has been a severe reduction in local authority youth services and we are finding it increasingly difficult to find funding for our work. We employ two qualified youth social workers and their work with the young people in the town, both at the two youth clubs we run and in the outreach work they carry out, are valued both by our users and the local community.

The Open Door Counselling Service is one of the very few services in Northwest Essex to provide a safe and confidential place for young people between the ages of 13 and 27 to talk about their problems with trained and specialised counsellors, who all provide their services on a voluntary basis. We currently have six trained counsellors - all members of the British Counselling Association - each with their own client base.

The £1,000 grant from the Charles S French Charitable Trust has helped to secure our future so that we can continue to provide this service that is unique in this part of Essex.
